First thoughts on "new" meeting...
by konceptual99 inhad a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

Why does brother John Allan remind me of baseball player for the Cincinnati Reds Joe Morgan? -

Watching this video is one of the reasons why I quit attending the meetings. There is no reasoning or thinking abilities at this meeting. Everything is boring, structured, and your brain is left at the door. All you become is a Parrot who mimics back what you hear. The boredom became unbearable. I hated myself for sitting there week after week and hearing the same thing over and over until my brain hurt. -

Where are the late arrivals?
Why aren't there any elders causing a commotion by whispering in someone's ear and walking around pretending they have something to say that can't wait till the meeting ends?
Where are the members who need to walk to the water fountain or go to the bathroom for the 10th time?
Why isn't there anyone so tired from a hard days work that they are nodding off?

Remember when you could wear casual clothes to the congregation book study?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini would get home from work, eat dinner, shower and put on jeans,a shirt and gym shoes to the book study.
then, one day a letter was read where men would need to wear a suit and tie and the woman would have to wear dresses.
it was stated in a letter that the change was due to, '' giving a better witness to anyone who would watch us walking into our local congregation or a neighbor's house.''.

Yep. In the 70's, early 80's, you could. Heck, I wore a Fender guitar t-shirt.I wore a Jetro Tull t-shirt at the book study meetings. I don't think anyone knew they were a folk-metal band. Now that I look back, the book we were studying was -

What was the time frame?

I'm from the Midwest,U.S.A. My family started attending the meetings in 1968 and I remember sitting under the table while the book study was being conducted with an elder and family members being present.
Then,it was moved to the elder's basement when it grew to around 15 people in the early 1980's. We wore casual clothes at the home book study until a letter was sent from New York. I can't imagine where the local elders decided that they would allow casual clothes at the local book study and not listen the headquarters. -

I remember that the letter was sent before 1984. We would wear casual clothes at our congregation book study. The book study was held at our elder's basement. He had no air-conditioning and we would all suffer due to the heat. -

There was nothing worse than wearing a suit at a brothers house who had no air-conditioning or was too cheap to put it on because of costs. We even had a sister pass out because the brother was too cheap to put the air-conditioner on in the middle of July.

HERE IS WHAT I WROTE AROUND 6 YEARS AGO! MY FIRST COUSIN DIED FROM CANCER .THE CONDUCT OF THE ELDERS TOWARDS HER DISFELLOWSHIPPED SON IS WHAT REALLY MADE ME REALIZE WHAT A HORRIBLE ORGANIZATION IT IS!
My cousin passed away last week from cancer at the age of 49. The cancer spread so fast it took our family by surpise. We figured she had a couple of years instead of months. She left 4 children(3 were baptised and 1 was disfellowshipped a couple of years ago).
Dealing with the death of their mother was bad enough but the conduct of the congregation Elders made it worse. The disfellowshipped child had to:
* leave the house when his mother died because Witness relatives were coming over to the house to visit the family.
* had to stay on the side of the funeral room at the wake by himself while the rest of the family sat in the front chairs.
* Elders refused to greet him in the line. They walked right past him.
*He was told not to attend the luncheon after the funeral. He left alone and went home because some members would not attend the lunch if he was there.
I spoke to him by phone for 3 hours after the funeral and was told that he will never return to being a Witness the way he was treated. He felt that the actions of the Elders made everyone else treat him the same.
